This is my brother standing in front of our Grandfather’s little courthouse in Sutherland Springs, Texas… about 1944. I watched our Grandpa marry many couples in that little shack, once telling me it was his “Justice of the Peace Joint.” Now, over 60 years later, you can get married today at my place… "Burbank's Little Wedding Joint". |
"TWO CAN'T LIVE AS CHEAP AS ONE, BUT IT'S LOTS MORE FUN... GET MARRIED HERE!" Those were the words that were painted on a sign that once hung outside my Grandfather's one room court-house in Sutherland Springs, Texas for well over half a century. Of course, it once read "Two CAN live as cheap as one" back in the 1930's and 40's, but grandpa had to change it in the 1960's as the world changed. Now I don't know which phrase would apply. You be the judge. Anyway, during my vacations, when I stayed on my grandparent's farm, many a time I was dragged out of bed to witness a couple getting married at 3 o'clock in the morning. It seems my grandpa's place had a reputation as being the place to stop in the San Antonio area when you eloped...or maybe it was just that he was the only Justice of the Peace anywhere between San Antonio and Houston with a courthouse right on the highway (A little one room shack actually). Well, I guess the memory of all those wedding ceremonies got to me and I set myself up in the marrying business. Yep, I'll drive on over and legally marry you and your soon to be spouse. In a civil, secular (non-religious) or non-secular (non-denominational, religious) ceremony. If you have a license, picture identification and two witnesses on hand (or, if you want, I can issue a marriage license on the spot anywhere in Los Angeles County).. I'll do my part, as best I can, to make your wedding what you dreamed it would be. One of the great things about being a wedding officiant are the interesting places I get to perform ceremonies. Like the one I did at 20th Century Fox Studios in the "Shirley Temple Room" for a very special couple...and in front of all the writers and creative staff of "The Simpsons". And no, donuts were not served at the reception. |

Frank Woods, "The Marrying Guy"(R) had the pleasure of marrying TWO couples on prime-time television on July 11, 2004 on the reality show "The Great Domestic Showdown". Hosted by TV and radio personality Adam Carolla, the show had six contestants proving their skills in decorating, cooking, entertaining, and for the final challenge, two finalists planning a real wedding. The two couples are pictured left and above. |
